Your Questions: Security, Safety and Redundancy

This article was published on May 26, 2020

One of the most common questions we get from customers and prospective customers alike is "how secure is Vonage?"

We realize that many people are still getting comforatable with hosted or "cloud" services. However, Vonage has implemented industry-leading protection to make sure that you only pay for the calls you make.

Real-Time Fraud Detection System

Vonage's VP of Engineering, Jonathan Alexander, shed some light on how Vonage protects its customers from potentially fraudulent attempts at hacking the system.

"Vonage has implemented a real-time fraud detection system to protect ourselves and our customers from losses due to fraud. Hackers attempting fraudulent VoIP calls plague many hosted VoIP providers, and in response Vonage has implemented industry-leading protection.

Our fraud detection system runs continuously in every cluster and automatically identifies likely fraud based on a number of factors down to specific phones and accounts.

The system quickly and automatically blocks any in-progress fraud attempts and changes the phone credentials – without customer involvement. It also notifies our customer support team so they can take further action as required. The result is that our customers do not have fraudulent call activity showing up on their accounts. "

What this Means for Customers

In a nutshell, our fraud detection service means your hosted phone system keeps humming along without any need for you to monitor or configure security settings. It's just another way that we're making cloud phone service power your business.
